Design thinking shaped by education and on-site experience

Oliver Hidalgo, AIA.

OH Design Lab is my independent architecture practice. I’m Oliver Hidalgo, a Chilean-American architect licensed in Florida and Kentucky.

I earned my Master of Architecture from the University of Kentucky in 2018 and have since worked with local firms and multidisciplinary teams, gaining experience across residential, commercial, and public-sector projects. My approach values restraint, clarity, and constructability, with an emphasis on clear, well-coordinated construction drawings.

In addition to private residential and small commercial work, I have experience supporting public and institutional projects through design development, construction documentation, and construction administration, including coordination with consultants, agencies, and regulatory requirements.

At OH Design Lab, I focus on projects that benefit from careful planning, clear communication, and a grounded understanding of how buildings are delivered.

Outside of practice, I enjoy the craft of coffee, classic BMWs, and deep house music.

Past collaborators include Steven Lowe AIA, Cristian Araneda, Viviana Perez, Jeffrey Spears, Liza Kuzmenko.

Background

OH Design Lab (pronounced “O-H”) is a small, independent architecture studio based in Kentucky. focused on residential, commercial, and adaptive reuse projects.

The studio’s work is guided by craft and clarity, with an emphasis on thoughtful decision-making and buildability. Design sensitivity is paired with real-world construction experience to ensure that ideas translate clearly from drawings to built work.

OH Design Lab takes on a limited number of commissions to support close collaboration with clients and builders. This approach allows for careful coordination, constructability, and a direct connection between design intent and how projects are delivered. The work favors projects that benefit from a slower, more intentional process.
